3 Healing Powers of the Sun
We spend our whole lives revolving around it…so why not center it in our daily routines? Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun! Here at Poppies, we count on the Sun to help our plants and flowers grow big and strong, but we also like to soak up the Sun and we’re gonna tell everyone to lighten up! So, make like a sunflower and turn towards the Sun, right after you’ve turned your attention to these 3 healing powers of the Sun (based on some sunny studies).

Let's go to heliotherapy
Whether you’re feeling a little sad, or big SAD, sun may be the cure. For those struggling with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) doctors commonly prescribe heliotherapy – exposure to natural sunlight. It’s easy to feel disconnected when your spending too much time inside, by yourself or in the dark. Making time each day to get outside, into the daylight and nature will be super grounding, healing and freeing! So venture out into the wild and participate in the community. Not sure where to go? We’re happy to welcome you into our little sanctuary here at Poppies.
Glow from within
Do the people in your life always tell you you’re GLOWING!? We get it a lot too ;) That clear complexion of yours may in part be due to a healthy dose of UV rays. UV radiation has been used to successfully treat a number of skin conditions including psoriasis, eczema and jaundice. Or maybe you’re glowing from within. Research shows that sunshine can lower blood pressure and improve your heart health, providing a little extra colour in those cheeks. Of course too much of a good thing does exist so don’t forget to cover up on those high UV days. Everything in moderation!
Vitamin "Sunshine"
Did you know that 70-97% of Canadians are not getting enough vitamin D? While supplements might be necessary during our long winters, it’s ideal to get vitamins from their natural source when you can. A walk outside a sunny day keeps the …colon-, breast-, prostate cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, multiple sclerosis, hypertension, diabetes and osteoporosis…. away! While intermittent patterns of sun exposure, especially coupled with any sunburns, can be harmful for your health, studies show that regular exposure to sunshine can have a protective effect. That’s why it’s important to get out there for a bit each day, take a breath of the fresh air, get your feet on the ground and feel peace of mind knowing that you are prioritizing your well-being.
Can’t get enough of that sunshine? Bring some home with you this weekend by participating in our sunflower weekend special!
